Champions league

Real Madrid maintained their 100 percent record in
the Champions League with a second win over
Liverpool, while Arsenal saw a three-goal lead
evaporate against Anderlecht in Matchday 4 on
Tuesday.
Real Madrid secured their place in the knockout
stages with a 1-0 home win over Liverpool.
Brendan Rodgers rested all his star names ahead of
the weekend meeting with Chelsea and his gamble
almost paid off as the Reds caused the European
champions problems in the second half.

Madrid piled the pressure on from the start and
Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet made an athletic
save from James Rodriguez's shot in the fourth
minute. But Karim Benzema broke the deadlock when
he lunged forward to connect with a precise pass by
Marcelo in the 27th minute.
Cristiano Ronaldo failed to equal Raul's Champions
League scoring record as he was denied several
times by Mignolet, including on two free kicks.
In Group D, Arsenal squandered a 3-0 lead with half
an hour to play as Anderlecht produced a stunning
comeback to draw 3-3.
Gunners captain Mikel Arteta scored from the penalty
spot in the 25th minute and Alexis Sanchez volleyed
home a superb second just four minutes later.
Sanchez then created Arsenal's third for Alex Oxlade-
Chamberlain in the 58th minute as the home side
looked to have taken complete control of the clash
and sealed a place in the last 16 with two matches to
play.
However, two goals from Anthony Vanden Borre, the
second from the penalty spot in the 73rd minute,
hauled Anderlecht right back into the match and
Aleksandar Mitrovic headed a dramatic equaliser in
the 90th minute.
Also in Group D, Ciro Immobile scored three minutes
after coming on as a substitute to help give Borussia
Dortmund a 4-1 victory over Galatasaray and a spot
in the knockout stage.
Marco Reus put Dortmund ahead in the 39th minute
and defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos doubled the
lead in the 56th.
Hakan Balta pulled one back for Galatasaray in the
70th minute, the first goal Dortmund conceded in four
group-stage games. But Immobile then scored his
third Champions League goal in the 74th minute,
before Semih Kaya deflected a shot by Immobile into
his own net for the final score in 85th.
Galatasaray fans set off firecrackers, smoke bombs
and flares, interrupting the match briefly twice.
Koke and Raul Garcia scored as Atletico Madrid beat
Malmo 2-0 for a crucial away win and surged to the
top of Group A.
Koke scored on the half-hour, angling in a low pass
from Juanfran with his heel. Atletico could have taken
the lead earlier but Malmo goalkeeper Robin Olsen
blocked Raul Garcia's shot in the 21st minute.
Atletico survived a surge by the home team after the
break as Diego Godin blocked Anton Tinnerholm's
powerful volley and Malmo striker Markus Rosenberg
hit the outside of the post.
Raul Garcia effectively ended Malmo's chances as he
picked up a rebound in the area and slammed in the
winner inside the far post.
Juventus scored twice in as many minutes to rescue
a 3-2 victory at home to Olympiakos and keep their
hopes of advancement alive.
Paul Pogba netted his first Champions League goal
moments after Olympiakos goalkeeper Roberto had
turned into his own net.
Delvin N'Dinga had headed Olympiakos in front
minutes earlier to stun the home fans.
Juventus dominated the match and had gone in front
thanks to a trademark Andrea Pirlo free kick in his
100th appearance among Europe's elite, but the lead
was wiped out within three minutes by an Alberto
Botia header.
Roberto fingertipped Arturo Vidal's penalty onto the
bar in stoppage time.
Brazilian striker Talisca scored 10 minutes from the
end as Benfica beat Monaco 1-0, splitting Group C
wide open.
With two games to play, all four clubs in the group
remain in contention for two berths in the knockout
stage.
Benfica went into the game with one point and one
goal, needing victory to keep their tournament hopes
alive. Talisca delivered with a tap-in at the back post
from a corner.
Monaco, struggling in front of goal this season
following the departures of James Rodriguez and
Radamel Falcao, were unbeaten before its trip to
Lisbon.
In the day's early game, Son Heung-min scored twice
to give Bayer Leverkusen a 2-1 win at Zenit St.
Petersburg, putting the German team on the brink of
qualifying for the knockout stages in Group C.
The South Korean striker opened the scoring in the
68th minute with a fierce shot from outside the box
and struck again five minutes later, finishing calmly
after a through ball from Stefan Kiessling.
Zenit earned a late consolation when substitute Jose
Salomon Rondon scored in the 89th minute.
Leverkusen are top of Group C with nine points.
In the other game in Real Madrid's Group B, Basel
strengthened their chances of going through in the
group with a 4-0 win at home to Ludogorets.
The rout was started by 17-year-old forward Breel
Embolo scoring his first Champions League goal in
the 34th minute. Cameroon-born Embolo was set up
by Fabian Frei's lofted pass, and the Basel captain
created a similar chance for Derlis Gonzalez to score
in the 41st minute.
Shkelzen Gashi connected with Embolo's pass across
the goalmouth in the 58th minute and defender Marek
Suchy scored after a corner in the 65th.
