SUSPECTED members of the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram, have again bombed a market in Nguro-Soye, near Bama, Borno State, killing no fewer than 29 persons.
Reuters reported on Sunday that the attack on the market was said to have been carried out on Saturday night.
“I travelled to Bama to buy bags of beans. Suddenly, there was a deafening bang at the middle of the market. It was in the late afternoon and commercial activities were at their peak,” said Shuaibu Abdulahi, a trader at the market. He estimated the death toll to be as high as 29.

iOS 7.1 jailbroken but only on the iPhone 4

An enterprising hacker has jailbroken iOS 7.1, at least as seen on a YouTube video.
Posted by self-dubbed "insane programmer" winocm, the silent video shows a jailbroken iPhone 4 powering up in untethered mode. Winocm takes the phone from screen to screen and makes sure to hit the Settings screen to show that the phone is indeed running iOS 7.1.
So does this mean all iOS users running 7.1 can now jailbreak their devices? No, apparently not.
A comment to the video from an account called "All things jailbreak" says the jailbreak works only on devices equipped with Apple's A4 chip for now. That includes such products as the iPhone 4, the 4th generation iPod Touch, and the original iPad but leaves out any of their successors.
The same account claims that winocom and fellow jailbreaker iH8sn0w are working to crack devices powered by the A5 chip. If true, it's only a matter of time before the jailbreak spreads further up the iPhone and iPad chain.

android wear

Earlier this week Google announced Android Wear, the platform that's going to bring Android to more wearables in the very near future. Along with the announcement, it also released a developer preview of the operating system for developers to begin working magic with. Naturally the preview included an emulator for devs to preview their work on. It didn't take long for the emulator to be extracted and turned into an installable APK for Android devices.
What this means for curious Android users running Android 4.4 and above is that you can install the Android Wear launcher on your device right now.
As Android Police reported last night, the launcher isn't a complete replacement for your current launcher. Instead, it's more of a brief preview of how Android Wear will handle notifications.

Swiping up and down on the screen will allow you to scroll through your current notifications. A swipe to the left will reveal options to for handling the message (e.g., open, reply, archive), while a swipe to the right will dismiss the notification altogether.
For those of you who installed Google's Android Wear Preview beta app, you'll need to uninstall it before installing the Wear launcher. You'll also need to make sure you've enabled the installation of third-party apps on your device in Settings > Security > Unknown Sources.
You can grab the APK and view an extensive gallery of Android Wear screenshots from this Android Police post.
After installing the APK, the first time you press the Home button on your device, you'll be prompted to select your preferred launcher. Select Android Wear to start using it.

03-20-14-paul-walker-daughter-mom-tmz
Just hours before he died in a fiery car crash, Paul Walker told his mother he was too busy to properly care for his teenage daughter ... and asked her to become the girl's legal guardian ... TMZ has learned.

Sources close to the Walker family tell us ... Paul approached his mother, Cheryl, on November 30th and asked her to retire from her nursing job to take care of Meadow full-time.

Turns out Walker had been overwhelmed with his work schedule and couldn't juggle that with his parental responsibilities.  So in August -- 3 months before he died -- Meadow moved in with Cheryl, who was working full time.

Paul hired a series of nannies to care for Meadow when Cheryl was on the job, but none of them worked out.

So finally ... on the morning of his death, Paul called Cheryl and said he had given up on the nanny search and wanted her to be a full-time, stay-at-home grandma.  Cheryl agreed, and Paul then called other family members to inform them of his decision.

As we previously reported ... Meadow's biological mom has a serious drinking problem and Paul never considered her an option.  Meadow had been living with her mom until 2011, when she moved in with Paul.

Cheryl has now filed formal papers to make her Meadow's legal guardian.

Toyota to pay $1.2bn to settle US safety probe

The US has reached a $1.2bn (£720m) settlement with Japan’s Toyota after a four-year inquiry into its reporting of safety issues, officials have said.
The criminal investigation was prompted by a series of recalls of Toyota cars in the US since 2009.
More than 10 million vehicles were affected by problems with brakes, accelerator pedals and floor mats.
Attorney General Eric Holder said Toyota had “intentionally concealed information” about the problems.
He told a news conference in Washington: “Rather than promptly disclosing and correcting safety issues about which they were aware, Toyota made misleading public statements to consumers and gave inaccurate facts to members of Congress.

President queries minister, NIS boss

President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday queried the Minister of Interior, Mr. Abba Moro; and the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Mr. David Paradang, over the loss of 18 lives during the NIS recruitment on Saturday.
The 18 died during stampedes at the venues of the NIS recruitment in different parts of the country. The deaths have generated national uproar.
The presidential query for the minister and the NIS CG came as the wife of the Senate President David Mark, Helen, denied reported relationship with the consultants than handled the exercise.
Mark’s wife, in a statement signed by the Special Adviser (Media) to the President of the Senate, Mr. Kola Ologbodiyan,  said she was shocked by media reports of her involvement in the exercise. She said the reports were based on a rumour and “a mere fabrication of the imagination of those behind it.”

community in Rivers State has petitioned the House of Representatives over its oil well dispute

The Kalabari community in Rivers State has petitioned the House of Representatives over its oil well dispute with Bayelsa State, accusing President Goodluck Jonathan of allegedly backing his home state.
In the petition, which was sent to the Speaker of the House, Mr. Aminu  Tambuwal, the petitioners claimed that the President planned to transfer the disputed oil wells to Bayelsa State.
The Kalabari Solidarity Forum, which signed the petition, warned that the Niger Delta could witness a major inter-tribal war if urgent steps were not taken to address the issue.
Part of the document, which The PUNCH obtained on Sunday, reads, “We make bold that our President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, is very acquainted with the facts of this explosive matter,  but allowed it to fester.
“Maybe, because his native Bayelsa State is the beneficiary of this outright wickedness.”

Remotely control a Mac with Mac.remote for Android

Many of us rely on our computers as entertainment hubs for watching videos and listening to music. Having a remote control to manage simple functions like play/pause, fast-forward, and volume makes a lot of sense. Every now and then, you'll see a physical remote control included with a computer system, but they're pretty rare.
In the absence of an actual remote control, you can use an Android device with the Mac.remote app to control many multimedia applications on your Mac. You can even put your Mac to sleep, shut it down, and control the screen's brightness.

Wayne Rooney: Man Utd loss to Liverpool a 'nightmare'

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney says his side's 3-0 home defeat by Liverpool ranks as one of the lowest moments of his career.

When will Man Utd win the title again?
Manchester United also had defender Nemanja Vidic sent off.
"It's a nightmare." Liverpool-born Rooney told MUTV. "It's one of the worst days I've ever had in football."
He added: "It's hard to take. You have to give Liverpool credit - they played well - but it's difficult to take.

Biometric registration of bank customers begins April 1

Biometric registration of bank customers will now commence on April 1, over a month and half after the project was inaugurated by suspended Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Mr. Lamido Sanusi, it was learnt.
Sanusi had on February 14 inaugurated the registration exercise on behalf of Bankers’ Committee at the CBN head office in Lagos. He stated that after 18 months of the exercise, bank customers would not be able to do any transaction without their fingerprints.
He noted the development represented a milestone in the nation’s financial system and economy in general.
According to Sanusi, the new biometric registration would lead to the issuing of Bank Verification Number, a unique identity for every bank customer, and would help to mitigate fraud, money laundering and other vices in the country.

China vows to continue search

China’s Premier Li Keqiang has pledged to continue search efforts for the missing Malaysia Airlines flight “as long as there is a glimmer of hope”.
His comments came as Vietnam and Malaysia investigated satellite images released by China that appeared to show possible debris in the South China Sea.
However, they were unable to find debris at the same location.
Flight MH370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing went missing late on Friday, with 239 passengers and crew on board.
Teams have since been searching waters on both sides of the Malaysian peninsula for any sign of the plane.
The satellite images, released on Wednesday, appeared to identify floating objects 150 miles (250km) or so from the aircraft’s last known position.
However, Dinh Viet Thang, deputy director of Vietnam’s Civil Aviation Authority, told AFP that two planes sent to inspect the area had returned, and “found nothing so far”.
Similarly, Malaysian Civil Aviation Chief Azharuddin Abdul Rahman told reporters that Malaysia’s planes did not find anything.

about the kardishians

The Kardashians have a Benedict Arnold on their TV show ... a thief ... a jewelry thief ... at least that's what law enforcement sources believe.

TMZ broke the stories ... $250,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom's former Tarzana home, and $50,000 cash was pilfered from Kourtney's Calabasas mansion.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... whoever stole Khloe and Lamar's jewelry knew exactly what they were looking for.  The thief or thieves took only the very expensive items, leaving the rest behind.  They knew exactly where to look and what to take.

What makes it look like even more of an inside job ... there was NO sign of forced entry at either home.

Our law enforcement sources believe someone from the crew of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" is the culprit.

We're told crew members are being questioned, but so far no one has copped to the crimes.

more about the malasian missing plane

More than four days since Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 disappeared over Southeast Asia, Malaysian officials not only don’t know what happened to the plane, they don’t seem sure where to look.
The lack of direction prompted Vietnam to say Wednesday that it’s pulling back on its search efforts until Malaysian authorities come up with better information on where to look.
“We have scaled down the searches for today and are still waiting for the response from Malaysian authorities,” Phan Quy Tieu, Vietnam’s vice minister of transportation, told reporters.
He described as “insufficient” the information provided so far on the airline, which vanished early Saturday over Southeast Asia with 239 people on board.

Soldiers attack B’Haram camp, seize 700 vehicles

The Special Forces involved in the ongoing campaign against the Boko Haram insurgents have recorded what security sources have described as one the greatest breakthroughs in the  campaign against terrorists  in the North-East.
Investigations on Tuesday revealed that the Special Forces, comprising ground troops and the Air Force fighters, had demobilized one of the strongest fortresses of the Boko Haram sect.
It was learnt that the soldiers, who carried out the operation, were shocked by the volume of arms and ammunition and hundreds of operational vehicles that they captured at the camp.
A source put the number of vehicles captured from the insurgents at 700 while several members of the sect were arrested.
The spokesman of the 7th Division, Col. Mohammed Dole, referred our correspondent to the Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen Chris Olukolade, for comments on the issue.

oscar pistorius trial

When security guards arrived at the home of Oscar Pistorius on the night his girlfriend died, the first thing the track star told them was that everything was fine.
That's what Pieter Baba, a security guard supervisor, testified Friday in Pistorius' murder trial.
The athlete said everything was fine, but he was crying, Baba said, and he knew everything was not fine.
Baba and the other guards then witnessed Pistorius descending from the upstairs carrying Reeva Steenkamp to the lower level.
"I was so shocked, I couldn't think for a few moments," Baba testified.
Pistorius pleaded not guilty Monday to one charge of murder and a firearms charge associated with Steenkamp's killing on Valentine's Day 2013 as well as two gun indictments unrelated to her death. Pistorius, 27, nicknamed "Blade Runner," has admitted killing his 29-year-old girlfriend, but says it was a tragic error after he mistook her for an intruder.
Pistorius cries during graphic testimony
Of the witnesses called so far, Baba was the earliest to arrive on the scene. He revealed new details and seemed anxious.
The trial was adjourned until Monday when the defense will continue cross-examination. The defense said it would show that Pistorius called security that night.
Another witness who testified Friday, former Pistorius girlfriend Samantha Taylor, said their relationship ended when he cheated on her with Steenkamp.
Taylor also testified that Pistorius slept with a pistol on his bedside table or on the floor beside his prosthetic legs and once became so angry after a traffic stop that he shot a gun through the sunroof of a car.

THE FLIGHT PATH

On Monday, investigators appeared to be no closer to explaining how a large plane could seemingly disappear into thin air.
A large-scale search involving boats and planes from a range of countries continues at sea. Relatives of the people on board keep up their painful wait for news. Officials have warned them to prepare for the worst.
And theories abound about what may have taken place.
Until clearer information comes to light, here’s a summary of what we know and what we don’t know about Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.
THE FLIGHT PATH
What we know: The Boeing 777-200 took off from Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian capital, at 12:41 a.m. Saturday (Friday afternoon ET). It was scheduled to arrive in Beijing at 6:30 a.m. the same day, after a 2,300-mile (3,700-kilometer) journey. But around 1:30 a.m., air traffic controllers in Subang, outside Kuala Lumpur, lost contact with the plane as it was flying over the sea between Malaysia and Vietnam.

What we don’t know: What happened next. The pilots did not indicate any problem to the tower, and no distress signal was issued. Malaysian military officials cite radar data as suggesting the plane might have changed course and turned back toward Kuala Lumpur before it vanished. But the pilots didn’t tell air traffic control that they were doing so. And at this point, we don’t know why the plane would have turned around.

From the Amazon basin in the north to the banks of the River Guaiba in the south, 12 stadiums across Brazil will play host to matches at next summer's World Cup.
Three of the arenas will miss Fifa's end-of-year deadline for completion, while a further three remain a long way from being finished.

Arena De Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo

Arena De Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo
Capacity: 65,807 (20,000 of which are temporary seats).
Opening: A new build for the tournament, the new home of Corinthians is due to be completed in time for the opening game which it will host. The stadium was said to be '94% complete' before the accident on 27 November which killed two workers. It will now miss the Fifa deadline but is expected to be completed by February 2014.
Altitude: 792m (2,598ft).
Climate: Highs of around 20C and lows of 13C with a 30% chance of rain.
Time Zone: GMT -3 hours.

Background: Corinthians, who currently play at the Estadio do Pacaembu, were granted permission to build a new stadium as long ago as 1978 but only announced construction of their new home in 2010. The Estadio do Morumbi, home of Sao Paulo FC, was originally chosen to represent the city of Sao Paulo in the World Cup but when funding fell through to renovate it, the opening game was moved to the new Arena in 2011. After the tournament 20,000 temporary seats will be removed.

Background: It took three years and approximately 695 million Brazilian reais (£220m) to give the historic Estadio Mineirao a comprehensive facelift. The stadium is a listed national monument, so the facade and roof had to be preserved, but the pitch was lowered by 3.4m to allow the removal of a running track and construction of new seating nearer to the pitch.
Although it was delivered on time, teething problems when the venue reopened in February resulted in the stadium's operators being fined. However, Fifa general secretary Jerome Valcke described the stadium as "beautiful" earlier this year.
Suspected fragments from the missing Malaysia Airlines plane carrying 239 people have been found off Vietnam.
The Vietnamese navy said objects, one thought to be an aircraft door, were spotted by a rescue plane off the country's south coast.
Security services are investigating whether the Boeing 777-200 was destroyed in a terror attack.
Interpol said at least two passports used on the flight were stolen and it is "examining additional suspect passports".
The international police agency said it was of "great concern" that passengers were able to board the plane using stolen passports, and no checks were made against its database.

Lwkmd a plane with 239 passengers is missing

Malaysia and Vietnam on Saturday led a
search for a Malaysia Airlines jet that has gone
missing over Southeast Asia, as fears mounted
over the fate of the 239 people aboard.
Vietnam authorities said contact with Flight MH370
was lost near its airspace, but its exact location
and what happened to it remained a mystery 12
hours after it slipped off air-traffic control screens.
Malaysia Airlines said the plane, on an overnight
flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, relayed no
distress signal, indications of rough weather, or
other signs of trouble.
“The plane lost contact near Ca Mau province
airspace as it was preparing to transfer to Ho Chi
Minh City air traffic control,” a statement on the
official Vietnamese government website said.
Its signal never appeared to Ho Chi Minh City
controllers, it said. Ca Mau province is in
southernmost Vietnam, next to the Cambodian
border.

Petrol stations closed because of scarcity in Jonathan state

When the current long queues resurfaced in filling
stations in the predominantly riverine Bayelsa State
two weeks ago, many did not believe it would
persist this long due to the government call on
residents not to embark on panic buying as
everything was being done to address the scarcity.
However, the situation in the state has deteriorated
to the extent that most car owners have since
abandoned their vehicles at home due to the stress

David Moyes thanks Man Utd fans for support in 'difficult' season

Moyes succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson, who ended his 26 years as United boss by winning a 13th league title, on 1 July.
However, United lie seventh after only 13 wins from 27 Premier League games.
In a magazine sent to United season ticket holders, Moyes wrote: "The difficult season we have experienced was not something that I envisaged."
I have absolutely no doubt we will see great winning sides here again
David Moyes
Moyes, 50, replaced fellow Glaswegian Ferguson, who won 38 trophies during his reign at Old Trafford, which also included two Champions League crowns, five FA Cups and four League Cups.
United lost only five league games in their title-winning season of 2012-13, but have already lost eight times in the current campaign, including home defeats by West Brom, Everton, Newcastle and Tottenham.
They were also beaten 2-1 at home by Swansea in the FA Cup third round and are trailing 2-0 after the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie with Olympiakos.
"You are accustomed to seeing a successful Manchester United and the backing you have given the players and me throughout the season has been incredible," Moyes continued in his letter.
"Away from home the travelling fans have remained the best in the country, while at Old Trafford your unwavering faith has been noticeable and hugely welcomed.
"Supporting your team when they are winning is easy, but much harder when things are not going as well, and the loyalty you have shown us has been magnificent.
"I have absolutely no doubt we will see great winning sides here again."
Moyes, who began his managerial career at Preston before spending 11 years with Everton, added: "Everything we have been through will make us a better, stronger team and club in the future."

Malaysia bans comic book for using ‘Allah’

Malaysia has banned an Ultraman comic book because it uses the word “Allah” to describe the Japanese action hero.
The Home Ministry said in a statement on Friday that the Malay-edition of “Ultraman, The Ultra Power” contained elements that could undermine public security and societal morals.
“Ultraman is idolised by many children” and equating the lead character, Ultraman King, with Allah would especially “confuse Muslim children and damage their faith”, the statment said, according to an Associated Press news agency report.

Lack of gunships hinders military operations

The contribution of the Nigerian Air Force to the prosecution of the campaign against Boko Haram insurgents may remain insignificant unless the Federal Government provides  it with the right equipment, investigation  has revealed.
It was gathered from military sources on  Tuesday  that the Air Force, which should have  added fillip to  the  ongoing military operations in the North-East, had not done much because of the type equipment at its disposal.
They said that   the   service   largely uses  Alpha jets  which, according to them,  are   ineffective in the type of  war currently going on in the zone.
One of the sources, who asked not to be named because of the sensitivity of the issue, explained  that an Alpha jet flies very high and is therefore   not very effective in carrying out aerial surveillance.
He added that   many  fighter pilots had complained that they  could   not see  ‘targets’ during operations  because  of the fact that Alpha jets  also fly very  fast.

EFCC rearrenign former minister of aviation over N100 million money laundering charges

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday re-arraigned a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, before a Federal High Court, Lagos on N100 million money laundering charges.
Fani-Kayode, whose arraignment for the same charges was the fourth since they were first instituted against him in 2008, again, pleaded not guilty to all the 40 counts.
The re-arraignment before Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia on Thursday followed the amendment of the previous 47 counts of money laundering charges involving about N230 million.
It made the second time of arraigning the accused before Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia after two other judges had previously handled the matter.

How to manage RAR and ZIP files with RAR for Android

WinRAR has long been a popular compression utility for Windows, supporting both RAR and ZIP files, among others. One of the most useful features of WinRAR has been its support of multivolumes, which let you chop up large archives into smaller volumes for easier handling. Now, the makers of WinRAR have brought RAR support to Android and with it, a set of powerful features.
If your needs are basic, the ES File Explorer app has built-in compression tools that might be all you need. However, if you're a power user and need things like, multivolume support, archive repair, encryption, and several levels of compression, you may want to give RAR for Android a look.
Creating a basic archive with RAR for Android requires just a couple of steps, but advanced users have several options to consider. Under General archiving options, you can name the archive and encrypt the contents, including file names.

If you swipe over to Advanced archiving options, you can set one of five compression options or no compression at all. This is where you can also set up multivolumes.

How to get better battery life on Android

Android gets a bad rap for short battery life, but that's only if you stick with its default settings. Make these simple adjustments to give your phone or tablet a battery boost.
Disable location reporting and history
GPS is a huge battery hog, as it harnesses data from the phone's GPS chip, cell phone towers, and Wi-Fi hotspots to find your location. The more a phone surveys your location, the more battery it uses. And that goes beyond just Google Maps.
Location reporting and location history are two GPS-based services with somewhat unclear motives. According to a Google Help page, the services can be used in conjunction with any other Google Apps, and may be used to improve your experience.
Chances are you can probably live without them, so disable these two features by going to Settings > Location > Google Location Reporting.
