AMVCA tonight

One of Nollywood’s most anticipated awards in
recent times, the AfricaMagic Viewers Choice
Awards, AMVCA, is billed to hold this evening at
the Expo Hall, Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island,
Lagos.
Though in its
second edition,
the glamorous
awards
ceremony will
be screened
live on DStv
and GOtv to
over 50
countries.
The event will
feature some
of the biggest
names in the continent. Viewers can look out for
must-watch performances from award-winning
Nigerian musican, lkakadu, fresh from their recent
performance at the World Economic Forum in
Davos.

Also on the line-up is Channel O award winner
Davido; acclaimed pianist and musician
extraordinaire Cobhams; highlife hitmaker, Flavour
and versatile vocalist, Waje.
According to the organisers, M-Net Africa, the
awards ceremony will kick off at 4 pm with a
special red carpet broadcast hosted by Channel O
VJ Denrele Edun, alongside the sleek Eku Edewor
as they welcome some of Africa’s hottest stars to
the glamorous event. Hosted by IK Osakioduwa
and Vimbai Mutinihri of Big Brother Africa fame
joined by Osas Ighodaro of AfricaMagic’s Tinsel,
the awards show will start at 7.30 pm local time.
M-net Africa reveals that a total of 29 awards
including 9 voted for by viewers, will be handed
out this evening with winners coming from a range
of fields including acting, directing, writing, editing,
costume design, sound, lighting, make-up,
cinematography, and art direction across a variety
of productions and genres, from drama and
comedy features to documentaries, online video
and short film. The anticipated moments of the
night will be revealing the winners of the
TrailBlazer, Industry Merit, and New Era Awards.
Also,announcing the winner of the Best Actress in
a Drama category for this year’s edition will form
another interesting highlight of the event. Already
set to battle for the award are Nse Ikpe-Etim, Nkiru
Sylvanus, Ivie Okujaiye, Stephanie Wilson and
Veronica Waceke. Funke Akindele who got the
most nomination nods for the second edition of the
AMVCAs is also nominated for the same category,
Best Actress in a Comedy for her roles in The
Fighter, The Hero and Return of Sheri Koko.
Desmond Elliot and Bimbo Manuel also received
nominations. But Osita Iheme a.k.a Pawpaw had
the highest nomination among Nollywood actors in
any category, making it the second time in a row
he has been nominated for awards in the AMVCAs.
Just like Funke, Osita has been nominated twice in
the same category, Best Actor in a Comedy for his
roles in “The Hero” and “The Fighter.”
Speaking on the AMVCA awards and the significant
investment made by MultiChoice in the
development of skills and talent in television
broadcast on the continent, the Managing Director
of M-Net Africa, Mrs. Biola Alabi said: “Our
mission at AfricaMagic is a continued investment
in African film and television and to continuously
lend our support to developing homegrown African
content.
